I prepare my sample use 3 methods:
1. Drop the solution onto surface of glass slide, and wait few days for the solvent evaporate. But, I just use this method for concentrated solution, and cannot use it for washy solution. I hate this method, too difficult.
2. Put the solid sample onto surface and strongly press it.
3. Squeeze the solid sample to convert into tiny solid species (maybe not powder). And then, I slightly press them.
So, which method is acceptable?
By making slurry of carbon nanomaterial.........you can do.............
To prepare slurry... take a few mg of sample in a pastle-mortor followed by a few drops of Triton-X 100 as binder and crush till it makes slurry...............Now this slurry can be used for Raman Analysis.
Thanks, but I don't want to use any chemical (binder) to prepare sample for Raman spectra.
Why..? why dont u want to use binder......? what is problem with binder..?
chemical(binder) will be disappeared when u dry it.... no chemical will left in your sample......
u can just put carbon powder on carbon/double sided tap which is already sticks on the glass slide. compress it to get uniform distribution of powder on tap.
I don't want to use binder, because I cannot ensure whether the binder is evaporated when I dry it in the air (or what's conditions?). I often use organic solvent as NMP to prepare my sample, but it still has some limitation.
I have tried to put carbon powder onto glass slide and use other glass side to press it. However, the surface is quite terrible. By the eye, we can see the surface is okay, but it maybe SO rough. That is the problem I don't want in my sample.
The problem is: I cannot squeeze my samples well, because it's a small carbon nanomaterial (maybe)
Ok but you don't need a long-range uniformity and smoothness. For testing it's enough to find a little portion of the sample (which diameter is comparable to laser spot, i.e. few Microns!) with adequate smoothness in order to be focused by microscope (in the case of micro-Raman) and collect a good signal. Nothing else!
