Fritillaria is one of the largest genera of the Liliaceae family. There are about 170 taxa of this genus all over the world. These are mostly native to the temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere, and can be found at latitudes between 32° and 62°, especially throughout Europe, the Northern part of Africa bordering the Mediterranean Sea, the Mediterranean basin, the Middle East, Northern Asia and as far south as Iran, Afghanistan, the Himalayas, China, Korea and Japan
