Traffic noise measurements involves measuring the noise over time with a SPL meter at 1,5m height or 4m or whatever height suited for the purpose, and counting the light and heavy vehicles during the measurement time. The longer the measurement period the higher the precision. The traffic follow a given statistics over the days, the weekday and week of year. Your home country may have a standard for this and the road type at hand in relation to a road traffic calculation method.

The measured noise levels needs to be adjusted for the counted traffic up against the traffic statistics of the calculation method.

Anders Buen what do you say if i use LAeq(1min) or LAeq(10min) for like 3-4 days per week, for exemple for 2 consecutive months, is it enough to tell eventually that that specific road or area is noisy !!

That is a very long measurement period. What do you need the measurements for? In Norway and scandianvia calculations following the Nordic Prediction Method 1996 is the standard. Measurements are usually done for verification or in conflict cases up against requirements. I usullay measure 3 x 15 min in one second eq, but the result given as 15 min eq averaged. The precision is dependant on the amount of traffic. Less traffic leads to need for longer measurement time. This is not my speciality, but i guess at least 100-300 cars should be counted. You need a good representation to decide how large the heavy vehicle percentage is.

Measurements are also useful because we get out to see the site and make judgements end observations that may be useful for model work or asessment of the situation.

i am in the phase of collecting technical data on how to measure road noise in order to perform my own measurements in the study case am working on.

After reading many articles on this subject, i found that there's no particular rule that oblige us to measure noise in a specific given period of time.

So you're saying that LAeq(t) actually depends on the volume of traffic : Less traffic => long t / more traffic => short t ?
