Dear all,

I'm trying to simulate in Abaqus how the soil is freezing given a variation on surface temperature.

I have issues/questions about the phase changing. After some research, I understood that the phase changing can be modelled in Abaqus by using either the build inn "Latent Heat" function or by "converting" the latent heat into specific heat. The issues are that I don't get the same results when comparing those two methods.

I attached an excel showing how I converted the latent heat to specific heat.

Two questions:

1. Is the method of converting the latent heat to specific heat correct? (I don't fully understand it)

2. Using the build-in "latent heat" function in Abaqus given a latent heat of 150e10^6[j/m^3]} for soil what is the "solidus and liquidus" temperature that Abaqus ask for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Robert Ailenei
