The Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) provides a clear and most up to date view of the current state of scientific knowledge relevant to climate change. As per the fifth assessment of the second working group,which was released by Inter Governmental panel on climate change(IPCC), millions of south Asians will be severely affected by climate change by 2100, because of adaptation to droughts, cyclones, coastal flooding and glacier melts. In November 2013, the IPCC working group established that human induced climate change is leading to increasing atmospheric temperatures, rising sea level and ocean warming.

Sea-level rise (SLR) for example, will cause forced migration (climate refugees) (37. 2 million from India and 27 million from Bangladesh). Commercial buildings, industrial facilities, airports, ports, hospitals, schools, and other economic and social infrastructure which are close to the coast will also be at risk due to SLR. In addition, SLR will increase the risk of cholera in many countries including Bangladesh since cholera bacterium, Vibrio cholerae survive longer in salinity range from 2.5 ppt to 30 ppt. SLR would further cause loss of agricultural land due to flooding of lands and intrusion of seawater into freshwater aquifers, as a result agriculture in low-lying coastal area or adjacent to deltas will be affected. Saline intrusion caused by rising sea-level (an invasion of seawater into freshwater and brackish areas) would cause the most significant impact on coastal groundwater resources in particular shallow sandy aquifers along low-lying coasts. There will be loss of biodiversity (a 28 cm SLR will cause a decline of 96% tiger habitat in Sundarbans). Coastal defences, flood warning systems and planned retreat, coastal buffer zones, building houses on stilts, elevated storm shelters with emergency evacuation are some of adaptation options. To counteract the losses of rice lands is to grow salt tolerant rice in affected rice areas or to grow brackish water prawn and fish in inundated areas to take advantages of the salty water. Euryhaline species may be selected for coastal aquaculture.
To effectively meet the challenges posed by climate change, imho it is most necessary to invest in a good education. This should lead to a better understanding of the causes of people's own actions in regard to climate change and their responsability to act accordingly. It should be a global consensus to foster climate-friendly behaviour in every country by means of support and incentives.
On what theOrganisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) calls “a positive note”, its members have slashed emissions of sulphur oxides by 69% since 1990 and of nitrogen oxide by 36% in the same period.Sulphur oxides, in various forms, are a chief cause of acid rain and a potent greenhouse gas. Nitrogen oxides are also a contributor to climate change and low level ozone, which damages plants and buildings and irritates human lungs.
These reductions have been possible because of political action, showing that it is not the lack of technology that prevents the world tackling climate change but the lack of will and legislation.

Climate-smart agriculture approaches can benifit one another to be ultimately fruitful farmers through higher income. Particular practices, such as incorporating trees into farms, water capture technologies, inter-cropping, and integrated livestock-crop systems, increase resilience to climatic stress, building soil organic matter, and storing carbon.
I would like to add the cancelation of farming subsidies in highly developed countries to the to-do list for a sustainable future.

The latest report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) addresses the role cities can play in dealing with climate change by cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Cities also face huge challenges related to global warming. Urban centers are responsible for about 75 percent of global energy use and produce 80 percent of greenhouse gas emissions that are known to contribute to global warming.
That great concentration of people, and energy use and carbon pollution provides great opportunities. Cities can be made greener by retrofitting old buildings, to increase energy efficiency.
Simple measures like installing more installation, switching to energy-efficient lighting and buying improved boilers and furnaces would be easy energy efficiency steps. Those steps will not alone be enough.

Large scale deforestation can cause 18% decline in India's rainfall.
The study, led by Govindasamy Bala from the Divecha Centre for Climate Change at the Indian Institute of Science and published in the Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences, is based on first hand climate modeling. Researchers used a model simulating atmosphere circulation, as well as photosynthesis, transpiration, warming of the ocean surface and ice melt.
The study quantifies the precipitation and the shift of the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in all monsoon regions. The ITCZ appears as a band of clouds, usually thunderstorms, which circles the globe near the equator and drives current rainfall patterns in the tropics.

The researchers studied a new class of materials based on magnesium oxide (MgO), which can capture larger quantities of carbon at much lower temperatures than many other substances being investigated. They discovered that coating MgO particles with substances called alkali metal nitrates boosted the amount of carbon dioxide that material could take up by more than 10-fold. The MgO captures a significantly higher amount of carbon dioxide (2 to 10 times) than other systems for a given volume. This translates into smaller equipment needs and lower plant costs. Additionally, the particles themselves are readily prepared with low-cost materials.

There is evidence that the 2007−2010 drought contributed to the conflict in Syria. It was the worst drought in the instrumental record, causing widespread crop failure and a mass migration of farming families to urban centers. Century-long observed trends in precipitation, temperature, and sea-level pressure, supported by climate model results, strongly suggest that anthropogenic forcing has increased the probability of severe and persistent droughts in this region, and made the occurrence of a 3-year drought as severe as that of 2007−2010 2 to 3 times more likely than by natural variability alone.
