Hello Hilda, we usually use specific questions for the students to answer, or use a diagram for students to label, and record the marks. Then we compare the mean of the pre-test, before the treatment, and the mean of the post-test, after treatment; the treatment is the Teaching or Learning technique.
But this method lacks a control group, and it's better to have a control group that is not exposed to the Technique that is used with the experimental group. (I attach 2 of my simple easy to understand papers; the first lacks a control, but the second has a control group. Good luck.)

1. Have students write 2 sentences about the to-be-taught vocabulary during pretest.Then have students write 5 sentences using the target vocabulary about the introduced vocabulary.
2. Have students ask a question about the topic to be covered, both before and after training.
Have a Pre -test test base on objectives of the treatment followed by defined treatment and the post test. the gain obtained will give you magnitude of the effectiveness, but for measure of significance we need to evaluate it statistically.
