Hi, I'm recently using gwyddion to measure my AFM image. I notice that when I open a new image there is a "Z-scale (per sample unit)" that I need to set up. But I don't know what does it mean. And I'm wondering if Gwyddion can measure the true physical value of Z-axis of my image?
Gwyddion can measure the true physical values of the z-axis. For most AFM file formats it will read the X, Y and Z scaling from the meta data of the AFM image. What file format are you using?
Hi Patrick Frederix Thank you so much for your answer! My AFM file is BMP format together with a txt file which contains three numbers for example 6000, 4500, 180. I know the first two number indicate the length and width of my picture (6000nm, 45000nm). But I don't know the meaning of third number.
Every time I open my AFM image, the software will let me set the "Z-axis (per sample unit)" and I don't know what does it mean.
There some very "light" areas on my image which means that these areas are higher than the surrounding area, and I want to know the exact height of these areas.
If you know how to measure the physical value or Z-axis using Gwyddion, could you please tell me a little bit more?
