I want to measure intensity vs wavelength curve for a material with very low luminescence intensity. During measurements what all I get is sort of noise signals. Anybody here could help me out in this issue using different settings or measurement method. Thanks
Try laser excitation (N2 337 nm or other) - if you haven't tried. I know this is a hard way, but usually stronger excitation helps. You can also change the excitation wavelength. Mind that if the emission is weak it may simply be below the threshold - Ocean Optics is not the most sensitive detector available.
Usually a regular fluorometer is used for that which is typically much more sensitive, but again I assume that this equipment is simply not available.

In order to obtain good spectrum with ocean optics, you have to increase the integration time (with very low luminescence, I would try 1 - 10 secondes), and try to substract dark spectrum from your sample spectrum.

If you have an uncooled OO spectrometer, try cooling the entire instrument in a small refrigerator or even a 12v beer cooler. No, I'm not joking. I've done it with a B+W Tek fibre-coupled instrument, and getting it down to 0 to 5 deg C really improves the baseline noise. Better still, get a spectro whose detector is cooled.
