I was totally confused to measure the tensile strength of the prepared CNF/PVDF composite coating. The thickness of the coating is 0.5 mm, is that nanoindentation method is convenient for this coating.
I did that kind of experiment two years ago. I used a SEM equipped with FIB (Focused Ion Beam) and GIS (Gas Injection System). In addition, a tensile strength testing system including LabView, Ni instruments models and a sensor was employed. Firstly, I cut a sample which has a cross section of both coating and substrate using FIB in a SEM machine. Secondly, I sticked the coating side of the sample to the sensor using GIS. Subsequently, I sticked tha substrate side to a tungsten probe which was in the SEM machine. Finally, I moved the tungsten probe slowly and slightly until the sample fractured. Usually it fractured in the interface. LabView collected the data and transferred it into force. Done.
