My current focus is on methods to minimize aerosol production for the safety of operating room personnel, not only for the current covid-19 crisis, but also for all similar scenarios that could prop up in the future. I would be grateful if anyone could give some information as to how to measure the aerosol generated particle concentration in different areas of the operating room.
Lasair III is a device from "particle measuring systems" using scattered laser light.
It is suitable for suspended particles as well as aerosols and measures a total of 1000 litres of air during a measuring process.So that is a flow rate of 100 liters per minute. The air is blown at the outlet through a HEPA filter The measuring device counts particles with a size from 0.5 μm to 25.0 μm, which is sufficient for classe "C" clean rooms. Aerosols smaller than 5 µm usually are separated in the lung, while larger ones are nasal deposited. Other companies are selling equivalend devices.
