I am a bit confused on whether to follow ASTM D785 (Standard Test Method for Rockwell Hardness of Plastics and Electrical Insulating Materials) or ASTM D2240 (Standard Test Method for Rubber Property—Durometer Hardness) to measure the hardness for PLA and PHAs polymers, or can I follow any of these ASTM standards?
- My understanding is that ASTM D2240 is used for softer/rubbery plastics, but I am not sure whether these two polymers fall under this category.

I would suggest using the ASTM D2240 and check with different indenter shores (A & D), it is way simpler to measure. However, if you have both pieces of equipment, measure using the Rockwell too, it is not much time consuming, and you can proof of the measurement.

If the material hardness is more than 90 in shoreA scale, better to shift to other shore scales for better measurements.
Polymers are always tested with Shoe A or Shore D ( ASTM D2240 ).
Even the hardest ones are not tested with Rockwell C.
There is no transfer between the 2 methods
