I am trying to form a covalently-bound layer of MPTMS on a QCM-D silica coated substrate, and want to use the stitch function in QTools to approximate the mass of the layer. I do not know which frequency overtone should be used for this purpose, and I also don't know which model (e.g. Sauerbrey, Voigt, etc) is appropriate to convert frequency to mass?

I contacted a scientist from Nanoscience Instruments and here is his answer:
" the Sauerbrey equation is appropriate if the dissipation values are close to 0 after coating. We typically use a 5% rule to say that the Sauerbrey is a good approximation of the total mass (ex. 5E-6 for a 100 Hz change). Past that you would want to use the Voigt model to determine the mass."
