Janaki Sandamali, there are several remote sensing satellites that have been used for Sea Surface Temperature (SST) measurements. MODIS onboard Terra/Aqua, VIIRS onboard Suomi NPP, AVHRR, Metop-A,B,C are commonly used in this regard. There are also Geostationary satellites such as GOES that are used for deriving SST products. Explore the possibilities of using Landsat 8 data for SST determination. There are algorithms which can now do that. It will give you high resolution outputs.

I agree with Priyom Roy , it would be interesting to look at SST derived from Landsat satellites. As mentioned, there are indeed research on the topic already. Here is one, 'High-Resolution Sea Surface Temperature Retrieval from Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Data at Coastal Regions' by Jang & Park (2019). However, if I'm not mistaken, Landsat acquires imagery only over the land surface of the Earth and the associated coastal areas, which when combined, covers roughly 30-40% of the entire Earth. The rest of the open sea and ocean waters are not covered by Landsat imagery acquisition, I believe. In any case, Landsat derived SST would depend on the area of interest and the application. Janaki Sandamali , I'm curious to learn what is your application with SST.

There are several satellite products that can provide this information. The satellite products with thermal information will be suitable for this objective. Products like Landsat-8, MODIS, sentinel-(thermal bands) may be helpful in retrieving the SST.

Passive microwave instruments that have been used for deriving SST include the Scanning Multichannel Microwave Radiometer (SMMR) carried on Nimbus-7 and Seasat satellites, the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Microwave Imager (TMI) , and upcoming data from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR)
