I have a gold quartz crystal microbalance sensor that I layer with thiolated DNA oligonucleotides. Generally, I clean and reuse the sensors by treating with 1M NaBh4 for 10min. Is there a simple way to measure the state of the sensor and how much reusability it has? Does monitoring the absolute frequency of the sensor tell me anything? I understand these things don't last forever, but I have to try and save money and not have to buy new sensors for multiple experiments.

There is way to calibrate your reused sensor to see whether it is fine to compare with a brand new one. Please see the attached file from the website of http://www.thinksrs.com.

You may also want to try oxygen plasma cleaning. It worked well for removing 1-octadecanethiol. I was able to reuse a QCM more than 70 times using this method.
The only (correct) way to test the reliability (accuracy and precision) is via some certified standard.
