Dear colleagues,
I would like to compare predation pressure on some groups of invertebrates (most likely they will be acorn barnacles and polychaetes) between habitats. At first I thought about using squidpops, to estimate predation pressure in general. However, I would very much prefer to find an experimental approach to directly measure predation pressure on invertebrates. As these animals are so small, I´m not quite sure how to conduct such an experiment. Do you know of any literature on the subject or have personal experience?

In an experimental set up, you can check for the presence of metabolites in the water through mass spectra or ICP or even reverse phase HPLC and then compare it with a control set up. Absence or lower concentration may indicate lesser predation induced stress and vice versa and hence reduced need for synthesizing something to serve as quorum sensors/autoinducers or even chemical cues with coded messages.
