Hello!
For some experimentation with plant extracts we need to obtain them in solid form. Pharma people tell me, that typically they are not doing so.
On other hand, here are some sorbents, like bentonite, which seemingly could do the job.
Has anyone tried something similar?

I agree with Jack Silver . According to me, I add petroleum ether to the oily extract and place the resulted mixture in a refrigerator for 3 days with glass scratching. After that, the superficial layer is removed, and another amount of petroleum ether is added, and refrigerated the mixture. This process repeat until the the solid crude is appeared.

Actually, my group solidified by using a powerful Rotary Evaporator. If not , firstly
take TLC to know the number of components in the extract, then separate them using MPLC chromatography, evaporate the solvent by rotary, I hope to get solid compounds.

You can use rotary evaporator or fridge drier. apart from this bentonite is also a good option used as absorbent.
How did you get to the current extract? Is it the crude extract? What solvent did you use to extract it?
If you used something like hexane, the mixture may be oily liquids. If a more polar solvent was used, try triturating into hexane (or petroleum ether). Dissolve the material into minimum ethanol, and add dropwise into rapidly stirred pet ether. the pet ether dissolves the oily things, and leaves the solids behind as a powder that can be filtered.
Alternatively, do a Kupchan partition to separate the extract into samples of differing polarity, and the oils will be separated.

I think plant extract will be treated with CCl4 ( carbon tetra chloride) for removal of fat/ oil or use Soxhlete apparatus for removal of fat/ oil, then proceed for further experimentation.

I had oily extract with Stegsnotaenua araliacea ethanol extract when others were not as oily (A. senegalese, V. tonoreana, etc.) and have to use tween 80 to allow mixture with water.
