Presentations include performance, so it's not just an element of content. I would recommend:
1. Prepare well
2. Practice your presentation
3. Record yourself or ask someone to listen to you
4. Be brief, shorter presentations are always better
5. Use prezi.com or another tool for keeping your main points
6. Repeat your main points in the presentation
7. Make sure your conclusion is strong, highlight take-away points, your audience will remember the end of your presentation a lot better than the beginning.
1) Learn: Some extra knowledge so that you will be able to answer the unexpected asked questions
2) Read : the data you have at least 3 times so you wont forget some points
3) Practice: To earn the audience trust and confidence you have to be familiar with the material you are presenting. So just practice, presenting in front of mirror or talking to wall or someone.
For Delivering
1) Be assertive not aggressive
2) Make contact with the audience by eye contact, Gestures and by use of your language
3) Engage the audience by asking questions from them which will make them alert
4) Don't talk too much on a point, this will make the audience bored.
just be yourself you don't act like classical actors or stand up comedian if you think they'll be impressed on that. Just be yourself.
The previous answers are very useful and I may add that practicing your presentation before someone or an imaginary audience is helpful to avoid anxiety or panicking which can disorganize even a well prepared presentation ?
your question about panicking and anxiety in presentations is very important.
Since two years ago, I adopted in my classroom "The Nigth of TEDx". It happens once each month. About 8 to 10 students do short presentations (12 to 18 minutes) about themes that "touch their hearts". They can choose the theme, and can use images, videos, music, etc, to help them to organize their points. It helps the students to have more confidence, because they really know the theme.
I prepare the class in a way that it can have a cozy atmosphere (armchair, carpet, abajour,...), the students chairs are organized as if they where in a TV show. It helps to break the formality and, consequently, helps them to talk more easily.
All students must evaluate the colleagues that are doing their presentations, and in the next class, I talk with each "speaker", individually, giving the feedbacks and receiving their feedbacks also. It helps them to learn more about receive and give feedbacks as part of their lives, as students and future profesionals.
Agreed with the points shared by previous RG members. Also want to add the following:
Know who are the audience in advance - depending on types presentation, sometimes it is good to find out the audience background so that your presentation is adapted to meet their needs or you can anticipate what kind of questions they might raise etc.
If possible go 1 or few days in advance to the presentation venue so that you can understand the presentation environments, lighting, temperature, microphone, projector conditions etc. so that you can adjust your slide deck font size, color contrast etc. Better still if you can do a mock presentation or rehearsal before the actual one.
Always keep a copy of the presentation slide deck in thumb drive besides the master copy in your notebook - this to cater in case any reason your notebook can't boot up during the presentation day.
Go through your presentation slides numerous times so that you are deeply understand & be able to articulate all the contents. Also prepare a list of questions that audience might ask & ensure you know how to answer or prepare all the answers in advance.
Assign someone to write down certain questions you can't address during presentation, additional issues to address or what are some of the next step action plans etc.
An effective presentation makes the best use of the relationship between the presenter and the audience. It takes full consideration of the audience's needs in order to capture their interest, develop their understanding, inspire their confidence and achieve the presenter's objectives. Careful planning is essential. Apart from above be bold while presentation.
