In a research project we want to get a more soft yarn. The process we will use must be some mechanical process and not any chemical treatment. Or, it can be a chemical treatment but then it must be environmental friendly.
Mechanically By using Comber yarn(a process in spinning in which we drop short length fiber) we are able to reduce TPI(Twist Per Inch) and reducing TPI we get more Softer yarn.
The protruding fibres in the yarn can be minimized by subjecting it to cellulase (enzyme) treatment. The treatment is called 'bio polishing. It lends softness to fabric as well as yarn. This is an eco friendly process but care must be taken to optimize and use the enzyme as there will be strength loss if it is used more than the required quantity. Softeners can be added but they are not eco friendly and mst of them are synthesized chemically.
