Might it be possible that the surface of the ZnO contains organic acid?

I have not linked ZnO to Graphen so that I only suggest. For a good link between the GO and the ZnO, the ZnO have to be unmodified (without surfactant) and the GO should contain some -COOH groups or be "however" negativly charged.

I suggest using the described procedure (for ZnO preperation) in presence of your GO.
