Is there anyone who could help in polymerization reaction (induced by Free-radicals), for waternborne monomeric solution.
The overall question is how to lessen the ammount of water that is pushed out of the polymer during the polymerization reaction?
Currently we know that the speed of polymerization influences the ammount of water to be pushed out.
We use Triethanolamine as a reaction catalyst and sodium persulfate as an initiator.
Dear Jonas Dikavičius, the question is not clear. Is it a polymerization in which the monomer is soluble in water and the polymer not? What do you mean by 'water pushed out'? My Regards

Since water is released, the reaction belongs to polycondensation. In order to remove water during the reaction, it is necessary to carry out the reaction under vacuum or to use azeatropic mixtures with water. For example add benzene and heat. Water will be removed at the boiling point of the azeatrope.

You should use a Dean and Stark to isolate the water released by the reaction.
Helli everyone, first of thank You very much for answers mr. Hodhaifa, Yuri, Amer, Abdelkader. I am making a research on a monomeric solution (waterborne) of a monomer AMPS, which i polymerize using a free radical initiation (sodium persulfate in my case).
I have noticed that the pH of the solution and the time it takes for the reaction to finish, makes a big difference in final polymer physical properties.
Also, it turns out that the shorter the time for monomer to polymerize, the lesser the ammount of water is pushed out and vice versa. If anyone has any practice with AMPS please let me know,woule be interesting to share our thoughs:)
Dear Jonas Dikavičius, shorter reaction time but at what maximum conversion and what is the MW attained? I think shorter reaction reaction time if it is done with increasing the initiator concentration leads to shorter chains with still have appreciable affinity to retain water, compared longer chains which are more hydrophobic, i.e., expel out more water (this is somehow the principle of precipitation polymerization).
