I have PLFA data for soil bacteria (Gram-positive, Gram negative, Actinomycetes and Fungi. And i need to calculate MBC (Microbial biomass Carbon) from the relevant data. Is it possible? If yes then how? your suggestions will be highly appreciated
Yes, it is possible to calculate. The bacterial cell numbers derived from bacterial PLFA concentration was an average of 1.17 x 109 per gram dry soil. On the other hand 1.40 x 10-8 nmol bacterial PLFA per cell equal to 2.0x10-5 microgram bacterial C per cell.
