In the Proof Central of Elsevier, I don't know how to insert a new inline equation in text.
I read the help but it is helpless:
"Inline equations are handled in the exact same way, however, if you want to place a comment for an inline equation this can’t be triggered through the math editor. Instead you can click on the Comment button in the article view, allowing you to place the comment in the line where the inline equation is mentioned."

You can not insert a new inline equation.
You may meet this problem during paper proof. For example, a symbol was typed in the text in Line-1 (DTS). But, in line-2, it was presented by an inserted inline equation (IES).
Sometimes, the directly typed symbol (DTS) in the text will be in mess compared with the corresponding inline equation symbol (IES).
How to deal with this?
Two cases:
(1) You can make the DTS consistent with the IES by modification (italics, subscript, superscript, Special Character).
In this case, the subscript of the DTS will be a little bigger than that of the IES in the printed PDF.
This is acceptable. Or you can leave a comment (I do not recommend this because there will be too much comments in the Proof.). OCD or not depends on yourself ^_^.
(2) You can not make the DTS consistent with the IES by modification (italics, subscript, superscript, Special Character). Sometimes, you can not find a special symbol in the Special Character.
In this case, You can replace the old symbol with a new symbol without special character in the full-text.

It is not a new feature. It is how I handle with this problem.
Some symbols in my paper are directly typed (the publisher made a mistake).
I added comment in the Proof.
I also sent mails to [email protected] as well (to tell them the directly typed symbol should be replaced by corresponding inline equation symbol).
After the Proof, they sent a revised PDF and asked me if it can be finalised and published. In this PDF, the directly typed symbols have been replaced by corresponding inline equation symbols!

I had watched this video. But, in this video, it does not mention about how to insert a new inline equation.
I added comments in the Proof Central and I emailed them.
They said that the author can not do this in Proof Central and forwarded my question to the journal manager.
After the Proof, the journal manager sent a revised PDF and asked me if it can be finalised and published. In this PDF, the directly typed symbols have been replaced by corresponding inline equation symbols!
( sorry I thought it was. I new there was a new feature on Elsevier and I thought it could be this. I would look it up again)
