Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on rock cutting simulations using PDC tools. I’ve developed a finite element model (FEM) in LS-DYNA that uses a hybrid FEM/SPH approach. The idea behind this method is to replace the eroded elements with SPH particles. This helps maintain proper contact between the cutting tool and the rock while avoiding issues like premature erosion.

I’m using the RHT model to represent the rock’s behavior. However, I found that the numerical cutting forces predicted by the model are significantly different from the experimental results (off by a factor of 10). I tried calibrating several numerical parameters in the RHT model, refining the mesh, and increasing the friction coefficient in the contact model, but the numerical forces remain inaccurate. Do you have any suggestions on how to solve this problem.

Thank you
