The use of series feed network results in compact antenna array design with reduced feed line lengths and feed radiation. However, series-fed arrays have low bandwidth. Impedance bandwidth is affected by substrate thickness and its dielectric constant. The cancellation of standing waves in series-fed array results in improvement of bandwidth and radiation characteristics of antenna. Some designers have applied U-shape gap-coupled series fed network to improve bandwidth. U-shape feed line reduces inter-element spacing and it improve bandwidth. In broadside linear array, the series feed network achievable instantaneous bandwidth depends on the array length, given as ∆f/f=0.886λ0/L. Wide impedance match is harder to attain in uniform broadside linear arrays (ψ=0) since power must equally be divided among the elements for uniform current distribution, while keeping the relative progressive phase (ψ) between the elements to zero.
