If the researcher has taken responses on four variables , 3-4 questions are raised on each variable based on Likert scale questionnaire. How should these values be entered in SPSS. The issue is that each variable has 3 to 4 questions- should an average of all responses be taken or something else should be done?

You need to distinguish between Likert-scored items and the scales that you create from those variables. In terms of input, you treat all of the items separately, and then create the scales within SPSS, using COMPUTE statements.
