I am trying to find band structure for a 2-D phononic crystal for the case of surface acoustics waves using plane wave expansion method. The solution requires the definition of unit polarization vector to apply the stress free boundary conditions on the surface under study.

Thank you very much for your response and the suggestions. The contents in the papers are very helpful and present alternative approaches for calculating the band structure for SAWs in PCs.
Following up on the paper by Tanaka, Y. and Tamura, S.I., 1999, the formulation presented requires solution of an eigenvalue problem together with a boundary condition.The boundary condition results in a set of homogeneous linear equations which contain the elements of the unit polarization vector. How could the elements of this polarization vector be defined for implementing the formulation in a code?
