I am modelling cascade control of a DC motor using MATLAB/Simulink. I am in need of support to understand how the control works during regenerative braking mode of the motor.

As I have understood it :

1. As the speed increases beyond the set point speed, the voltage output from the combined effect of 2 PI controllers becomes -ve.

2. This negative voltage produces a negative motor moment for a positive speed and therefore tends to slow down the motor, effectively producing voltage from the motor (as it now acts as generator).

I need more clarity on my understanding. Can someone help?

Thanks
