I would like to konw technical specification on how to use a Biopack and a Phillips 1.5 MRI scanner. Does anybody know if the typical EKG electrodes are MRI friendly or paramagnetic?
Typical electrodes will likely not be suitable - I've used adhesive carbon electrodes before with good results, though the clips often need a bit of modification.
For the data, the best thing to do is feed the scanner TR pulse into a spare channel on the Biopac hardware - that way you can easily understand how to sub-sample the EKG data in order to create regressors for a GLM, or whatever you want to do with it.
Just to second that - feeding the TR into the biopac is the optimal solution. Depending on which scanner you've got, you may also have a built in wireless EKG system (and other physio gadgets) that came with the scanner (e.g., as for the Siemens Trio). It's a little tricky to extract the data - but doable and there are instructions floating around.
Not sure about EKG, but GSR and stimulation electrodes inside MRI in addition to being made of carbon should be attached to MR-compatible cables and have patch filters installed in between the scanner and control room.
See http://www.biopac.com/FAQ-Details.asp?ID=240 and
Biopac has experts on hand who will help you with what needs to be ordered, but for just EKG it would be far easier to get a built-in EKG signal as mentioned by Dr. Lenartowicz.
