I have a question regarding how to get ranking of Indian companies based on reputation as well as other measures as done by the Reputation Institute for different countries.
I know about the company CRISIL which does this kind of ranking but is it possible to access those data for the past years for Indian companies listed in NSE? It will be great if you are aware of some other organizations which does this kind of activity and let me know.

The way I get your question is that you want to know the historical ranking of NSE listed Indian companies. If that is so then there are few elements missing in the question. First, what do plan to choose the basis of that ranking on a year on year basis. Are you going to choose the profitability of companies to rank them or their size/market capitalization. Would ROA for the basis of that list and so on. Researchers in the area of marketing rank companies based on their brand value and so on.
CRISIL as you mentioned rate the companies and not rank them. What is a credit rating? A credit rating represents the rating agency's opinion on the likelihood of a rated debt obligation being repaid in full and on time. ICRA does similar things. A simple alphanumeric symbol is normally used to convey a credit rating.
I believe you would have to formulate your own parameter on the basis of which you would rank the companies depending upon your research requirement. There are 1486 companies listed on NSE out of which 217 belong to financial sector. You can get financial and allied data from yahoo.co.in for your study.

Thank you Naseem...yes you are right..CRISIL rate companies....I want rating of the companies...and also ranking based on reputation of those companies.....as done by the Reputation institute for various countries...both are needed for my work.

My limited knowledge is completely unaware of any "reputation institute" in any country. Instead we find companies ranked in order by various magazines related to business happenings based on their methodology. Important issue here is how do you define reputation? what factors would contribute to that? A company generating more returns to its investors would be more reputable or the one spending more on CSR activities?
There are loose ends to this. I would suggest you to form your own criteria and take few parameters like accounting performance, market based performance, value based performance if you may, degree of corporate governance recommendations compliance by the company, market capitalization, influence of the board of directors etc. and allot different weights to them. Then you can take the product of these weights corresponding to your parameters to get "Reputation".
You can refer to any research article on this to corroborate it.

Global RepTrak 100 published by Reputation institute measures the reputation of the 100 most highly regarded companies across 15 countries. I was thinking if there is something like that for Indian companies too. If not, then probably I need to create my own parameters as you are suggesting. Thanks a lot Naseem.

Thanks for introducing me to Global Rep Trak 100. I didn't knew about that before. I went through one of its report and found that they do follow what I advised you earlier. They rate companies based on 7 dimensions (please find attachment for your reference). Here brand value of the company as perceived by consumers is what on which they rank companies. Interestingly India does feature in the survey.

Yes India is there..but this is not much comprehensive as far as I remember. At least not fitting exactly my requirement.
