I am using TTIP as a precursor to producing TiO2.
Organic solvent: IPA
and Acid: HCl
I am preparing sol in different proportions, but i am ending with gel formation or milky white suspension after two days.
Please help me with producing stable TiO2 nanosol.
Dear all, it is without indue doubt that TTIP is the most promising precursor it the conditions such solvent, concentration, are well selected. If you use water as catalyst as well, try adding it to the alcohol before adding TTIP. Adding water to TTIP solution in alcohol often leads to fast hydrolisis/condensation in a small area, giving you agglomerates.
Try adding acetylacetonate (small amounts, in the order of 1:10 acetylacetonate:TTIP are enough), take in mind that the more acetylacetonate you use, the lower your final viscosity will be, adding too much of it, won't allow you to produce thin filmes.
And if you don't have acetylacetonate in your lab, I would try a different acid, HCl is strong and will provide faster reactions.
And my last advise: always add TTIP drop by drop under vigorous stirring.

Unfortunately the article is not available as public full text on RG. However, here is the detailed preparation of a stable transparent TiO2 nanosol:
Titania-Nanosol Preparation. A total of 45 mL of Ti(OC4H9)4 (= tetrabutyl orthotitanate) was first mixed with 15 mL of absolute C2H5OH (ethanol). C2H5OH was added dropwise with stirring. Upon completion of the C2H5OH addition, HCl was added until the desired pH (1.5, 2, 3.5, and 4.5) was reached, and the solution was stirred for 45 min. The sol obtained was clear and homogeneous.
Thank u Frank T. Edelmann . I am using a similar way. It is providing stable nanosol but after a day, sol solution becomes milky.

I am following the same, I am mixing TTIP in IPA and then adding water slowly, in this mixture. it gives clear solution on time zero but with time it is starting preparing cloudly and then the milky solution

I have tried producing as mentioned in the article but I am failing, after 3 days sol turned milky and unstable.
Krunal - Please see this potentially useful article entitled "Stabilizer-free low-acid rapid synthesis of highly stable transparent aqueous titania nano sol and its photocatalytic activity". In this article the authors highlight the following points:
- Rapid synthesis of aqueous titania nano sol is reported without the use of a stabilizer.
- Sol with low inhibition ratio (5000) with storage stability of >2 years is reported.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the full text of this article. Perhaps you can get it directly from the authors.
