I would like a method to modify mineral surfaces using silanes. The purpose is to alter the hydrophobicity of the minerals so as to test them in a flotation exercise. Is there a way to effectively coat mineral surfaces with silanes? I have tried methods used in functionalizing silica glass beads and this does not work the same for minerals as I can not follow the steps precisely owing to a piranha solution step that would dissolve/destroy the mineral samples. The mineral in question is pyrite.
