I'm conducting a research to evaluate the use of different lyophilized microalgae biomass to cultivate Daphnia sp. In all the papers I read, the food supply occurred by cell density (cells mL-1). Could anyone tell me how much biomass (g L-1) Daphnia-1 day-1 I have to offer?

Using cell density has litle value as a feeding indicator in zooplankton due to the enormous variation in cell dry biomass of each phytoplankton species. So, I can understand your uncertainty at this regard. In your case, I would recommend you to supply 40-60% of Daphnia biomass per day once the miocroalgae has been adequately rehydrated. Be carefull with the rehydration (and the blending systmem employed) because of the variability in cell mechanical tolerance. Once you have your concentrated rehydrated biomass it is very important to supply it almost continously troughout time. As you will probably know, feeding efficiency is better at very low and sustained cell density
