Hi, Hope so all of you will be fine. I am new here and going to start thesis in the field of Mixed signal deisgn. I am intrested to work on ADC (typically flash ADC). Currently i am reading literature. One thing that i often afraid is the plots / graphs of ADC performance parameters i.e. SNDR, SFDR, ENOB etc.
Can you please guide me how researchers plot these graphs while performing simulation of spice based. Also suggest softwares for Analog and mixed signal Design IC papers implementation.

In order to simulate SNDR, SFRD, and ENOB you need to apply a sine wave as the input to the ADC and then take the FFT of the output. You can use MATLAB to find the FFT. When you are extracting the output data, just make sure to take one data point of the output in each sampling period. It is important to set the input frequency to a reasonable value to avoid spectral leakage. Generally, you can use the following formula:

you can export data from your Cadence VIVA plot by “right-clicking on the trace – Send to – Export …”. This allows you to save your waveform (e.g. the time-domain output of your ADC) to a .csv file, which you then can import into your Matlab environment for post-processing. Newer Cadence versions (Cadence IC6.1.7 or newer) even offer a built-in function that allows you the export your data directly from your ADE-Assembler environment.
For analyzing the time-domain output signal of your ADC, I suggest to use the transient simulation option “strobeperiod” to sample your output signal. With this option enabled, your time-domain signal will just contain the points required for determining the performance metrics of the ADC.
