Hi everyone,
I will do some experiment in which my sample (optical nanoantenna) will be stimulated by an optical fiber and I would like to know what I should expect from this experiment, so I'm running some simulations with CST 2016.
I am trying to simulate the system in the range of 300-1000THz with a Time Domain Solver, open boundaries in all directions and plane wave as excitation source. Unfortunately, I'm not able to get information about trasmittance and reflectance because there are no ports defined.
How should I overcome this problem? Should I change the type of excitation? if so, what should I use in order to get realistic results?

I think with open boundaries you may not define ports to your geometry. What about utilizing periodic boundaries. If you use them with a longer lattice than your structure (let say 5 times bigger) you are able to calculate the transmittance and reflectance and it will be good approximation of your problem.

many thanks for your reply. I was trying to do what you said but the simulation doesn't start because periodic boundaries in all directions are not compatible with the plane wave excitation.
Should I use a waveguide port instead? If so, how can I set the dimensions?

Hi Zelio,
Yes you need to use wave ports in the case of periodic boundaries. The setup is quite similar to a wave-guide excitation. Unfortunately because I dont have the software license at the moment I cannot give you the detail.
