I made inverted organic solar cell (ITO/ZnO/P3HT:PCBM/MoO3/Ag). I deposit MoO3 powder (Sigma Aldrich) by thermal evaporation on P3HT:PCBM layer and then deposit Ag electrode by thermal evaporation. But I didn't get good efficiency. If I make inverted solar cell (ITO/ZnO/P3HT:PCBM/Ag), i achieve a good efficiency of 2.8%, but with MoO3 powder i am not successful. Can anybody tell me the exact way for MoO3 powder evaporation? After fabrication of full device I am giving 10 min thermal annealing at 160C to the whole device. Is this detrimental to the device?
Thanks Sir, I am using MoO3 powder which was kept in dessicator. I want to know that can we use MoO3 powder after long time? or we have to store it in a glove box or in any dry box to protect it from moisture.I find problem in powder evaporation so i made pallets of MoO3 powder and use them for thermal evaporation.I think that may be after 6-7 months moisture get absorb by it.Does people use it normally or any specific care should be taken to handle this powder?
I can evaporate 5nm-MoO3 at low rate ( 0.3 A/s to 0.5A/s) in good high vacuum. and I suggest you to measure your device before and after annealing device.
@Andrea: Since MoO3 is a powder, is there some consideration about pumping speeds etc need to be taken into account so that it does not spill out of the crucible?
@Neha: how did you make pellets of the powder? just compression by hand or something else?

I have two kind of MoO3 Powder, one is black and other one is light-yellow color. Could any one explain why the same material in different color. Which one is best?
Hi Thiyagu Subramani, I think if you do heat treatment to this black powder after draying, it will be light yellow or light blue color according to heat treatment temperature.

I think the color of the oxide may be directly related to the stoichiometry of your oxide. I been working for a while with tungsten based oxides and basically the color can help you to preliminary asses the quality of your oxide (if you are looking for a perfect MoO3). In tungsten based oxides the color can change drastically when the stoichiometry change (WOx, where X=2.92). I believe that MoOx should have a similar trend. However, the color is just a fast indication but is always better to conduct additional material characterization such as XRD, XPS, etc as a support.
