We are writing a systematic review based on the various types of the studies: clinical trials, clinical case series and the animal studies. What type of study assessment criteria to use to be able to compare the quality of all types of studies that we include in the review?

Hello,
Several quality assessment tools for the included studies are available online. For example, you can assess the quality of the case-control studies by the "NewCastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale." I guess you will find these types of scale to evaluate the quality of the clinical trials, case-series, etc.

Shakil Ahmed We were trying to use NOS and it seemed fine for clinical and animal studies. We faced the problem with series of clinical cases. NOS gives very low scoring to the clinical cases, as there are samples from patients taken from biobank and analyzed for the specific feature. Is it still valid to use it?
Has anyone evaluated quality of retrospective series of clinical cases? What type of scale to use?
