I have strain rate dependent material properties of resin and want to calculate strain rate dependent material properties of composite using FEM. What are the loads and boundary conditions I should be using, if it is possible using LS Dyna?
Well, typically composite material characterization is not conducted using FEM, Best way is to fabricate your panel and use simple tensile test in 11, 22 direction for E11 and E22 and get poissons ratio using reciprocity relation
And for G12 you can use 45 degree coupons (Read book of Swanson or Follow ASME standards)
Furthermore, to validate your results you can use composite layup module in any FEM package i.e. LS-Dyna, ABAQUS etc. You can define number of layers of fibers with orientation of each individual ply,
you can also try some simple homogenization based approach !
