How to estimate rock mass tensile strength by considersing the scale effects? With use of the generalized hoek-brown criterion, estimating the GSI value, then set sig1=sig3 and compute the rock mass tensile strength , is this ok? the generalized hoek-brown criterion is based on a lots of compression tests, is it reasonable to estimate the rock mass tensile strength by set sig1=sig3 in hoek-brown criterion?  if not , how to estimate rock mass ts?
