I want to know, Can I make master alloys of Mg with Zn, Ca and Ag through the casting route and If it is difficult to cast master alloys of Mg, Suggest to me the best route of making master alloys of Mg.
As you know, Mg has a high affinity to oxidise, you should take precautions to prevent its oxidation and inflammation during the casting process.
If the Vaccum casting facility is not available, normally, Argon and Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas mixture can be purged inside the melting crucible. This would protect the Mg melt from oxidation.
