Indeed, some pharmaceuticals are very hard to dissolve in water. According to literature the water solubility of Naproxen is around. +/-15 mg/l. For compounds with only a poor solubility in water, our lab has adopted following procedure:
- weigh approximately 45 mg of Naproxen (+/- 3 times the required amount for making a saturated solution)
- transfer the compound into known volume (1L) of deionized water
- stirr the solution for approximately 6 hours
- filtrate the solution.
After finishing this procedure you will have a saturated Naproxen solution (concentration +/- 15 mg/l) which can be further diluted to your desired final concentration
