While conducting postmortem examination most of the time there is evidence of food material in trachea and bronchus how to confirm that aspiration of food material is antemortem in nature? what precaution should be taken so that this misinterpretation will not happen.
I don´t know if most of the time, but when you find food traces into the trachea and bronchus, you have to be thorough if is antemortem in nature. Some times agonizing vomit can mimic a real gastric aspiration, I think the difference consist to find food particles in bronchioles and alveolus.
A true aspiration should have vital reaction on the histologic sections! Look for presence of even a few neutrophils around the aspirated material in the airways
