For a number of vehicles moving randomly, would someone suggest a simple algorithm to classify those moving toward the same direction into one group? Which mechanism is suitable to determine the direction of a vehicle with respect to the other? Note that the velocity of all vehicles is given?

Could you provide more informations about the data collected from vehicles' movements ? is the vehicle geo-trackable ? is it moving on roads or open space ?

If you mean velocity by its technical meaning, then it should be a vector metric along with directions which would facilitate you for the grouping.
If you mean the scalar measure, speed, then you ought to calculate the trajectory of the objects by locating their spatial points at time t and (t -1). This should allow you to calculate the inclination angle theta with respect to a fixed plane for all of your objects. The angles can be grouped according to custom ranges (e.g, 80 to 100 degrees correspond to north, 170 to 190 for east, etc). The number of classes correspond to the number of groups you may categorize into. Finally you may group the objects (vehicles) based on which range theta falls in.
Thank you for your answers. I have a group of vehicles randomly moving in an open space area around 3km by 3Km. I have the speed and the current location of each vehicle. I need a simple algorithm for classify these vehicles into for groups according to their movement direction (east , north, South, ...).
A simple classification Tree algorithm like C4.5 will do it, all you have to do is to create a simple training set with few examples like : Orientation = 90 ,class = north .
