I'm currently working on a correlational study on sleep quality and will be controlling for occupation (Say, nurse, teacher, and bus driver) in my analysis. I know there's the rules of thumb for subjects per predictor in regression analysis (eg. 10:1) but I've heard that ensuing you have enough subjects per level is also important. For example if I had enough subjects for the overall analysis but only 2 bus drivers, it would reduce the power. So I'm wondering where I could find a guideline for estimating the minimum subjects per category. Thanks =)
