What are the standard methods preferable to find CEC and what are the analysis required (including equipment name). How important role plays CEC in zeolite. Thanks in advance.

Cation Exchange Capacity and Exchangeable Cations by Ammonium Chloride
The sample is washed with ethanol/glycol mixture to remove soluble salts, and the cations are displaced with alcoholic 1M NH4Cl pH 8.5, followed by 0.05M NH4Cl, then
displacement of NH4+ & Cl- with 15% KNO3 + 6% Ca(NO3)2 solution.
The combined nitrate extract is analysed to determine the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) and the combined chloride extract is analysed to determine the Basic Exchangeable Cations.
The fusion method can be used to find CEC of zeolite. The fused sample is dissolved in specific concentration of nitric acid and the resultant solution directly analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). you can take detailed information about the study with the name of “Determination of Majors in Geological Samples by ICP-AES”
there are method using Me blue
firstly you wash the sample with H2O2 in water 500 ml
after that prepare methylene blue solution with concentration 0.1 molar or less
titrate with it you will see that the color disappear with time and can been seen from drop on filter paper taken each drop you add from Me.B
after you take drop having color blue that is the end point
from calculation CEC= V*N /W
you can get the CEC of zeolite or other soil
