My situation is this, I am doing a job where I need to detect iron (II) with a colorimetric technique in a medium that has a considerable concentration of copper (II) and iron (III). The most common and used method is that of phenantroline, but the problem with it is that it suffers interference from both copper(II) and iron(III). So I have been looking to see if there is a specific iron (II) chelator that does not suffer interference from both cations, but I cannot find one. For example, 2,2'-dipyridyl forms complexes with copper(II). 4,7Diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline I am not sure if it is interfered with by copper (II), because it does not say so in this article. But I find structures with copper(II) but with different ligands more the 4,7Diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline. What could you recommend?
