I have 53-year daily precipitation data in our site from 1960 to 2012. Now I want to know whether the years of 2014 (P=467 mm), 2015 (P=388 mm) and 2016 (440 mm) are normal, dry or wet year. The annual mean precipitation is 478 mm. And the quantiles of 25%, 50% and 75% in the cumulative frequency of the 53-year data is 407, 479 and 504 mm. If the precipitation falls between 25% and 75% is defined as normal, the years of 2014 and 2016 are normal water years. But I am not sure whether there is other standards to define this since my major is not meteorology. For instance, could I define the year 2016 as a light drought year? Thanks in advance.
