Following the building up of a multivariate model (using EViews), I wanted to test for any structural breaks. So, I used the multiple breakpoint test in EViews and it stated that there are 2 breakpoints. My questions are:

1. What would be the best way to create a dummy variable to test the significance of the structural break? let's say that the sample spans from 2004 to 2017 and there are structural breaks in 2006 and 2008 (as found out by the above test). By looking at the graph, it seems there is certainly a change of trajectory (of the variables in the model) during this period, but the trajectory of the variables from 2004-2006 and 2008-2017 is similar.

Would it be sensible to create a dummy variable (DV) with 0s for 2004-2005 and 2009-2017, and 1s to 2006-2008? or, should I create 2 DVs, one which is 0 from 2004 to 2005 and 1 for the remaining period, and the second DV where we define 2004 to 2008 as 0 and 1 for the remaining period?

2. Then, using that DV in the regression, if the DV is insignificant, i believe it means that the structural break doesn't have implications on the estimated model (please correct me if i'm wrong). Then should the model be shown with the DV or not?

3. What if the DV is significant? What could one do in that case?

Thanks in advance.
