Dear colleagues,

I would like to learn how to properly make use of the data/information that the respondents have provided by answering the open-ended questions in the quantitative surveys?

Should we consider these data as qualitative data and run qualitative analysis with them, separately? Or shall we code the qualitative answers into a statistical software with the data from the closed questions and treated them all as variables in a quantitative analysis?

I just give an example here: the closed question is 'In general, are you satisfied with your social relations? yes/no', and the open-ended question is 'if no, can you specify the reason why you are not satisfied with your social relations? type your answers by words'.

Could you kindly share your precious experience how to deal with the situation in your empirical studies? Many thanks ahead!
