I am working on the adsorption of Pb and Cu from an aqueous solution. I want to make a binary component solution. For that purpose when I mix each 50 mL volume of 50 mg/L concentration of individual heavy metals in a solution, the resultant concentration of each heavy metal in100 mL volume solution decreased. How to fix this concentration on 50 mg/L each?
Please suggest to me that Is there any technical way of making a binary component solution where the concentration of each metal is exactly 50 mg/L?
I had similar problems when working with chlorophenols in binary system. I based mine on volume. The total volume of solution I was working with was 500 mL. So, I chose a specific concentration (50 mg/L) for both chemical and mixed the two chemical at different ratio (to obtain the 500 mL) e.g. 80 % for a : 20 % for b, then 60% : 40 % till 20% for a : 80 % for b.
you can now determine the concentration of each chemical in the binary system after adsorption by analyzing them separately.
Saeed Rehman make 100 mg/L for both. that way upon 1 to 1 addition, each of the metal concentration will be halved. or use M1V1=M2.V2 for fixed final volume.

- making 100 mg/L and mixing equal volumes will definitely halve the conc to get 50 mg/L for individual components. however what about the ratio of adsorbent to adsorbate? mean total ionic strength of your binary solution will become doubled too. e.g., I tried adsorption analysis of a in 50 mg/L against adsorbent X 1g/L. and similarly for component b separately. in binary solution when I mix 1:1 100 mg/L of a and b i get 50 mg/L of each. but now the ratio of adsorbate (50+50) is doubled to 1 g/L of adsorbent.@ Dr. Yunus.
