Hello Researchers,
When writing a literature review or a paper, thesis or dissertation, which parts of other authors work do you cite? Is it their findings, conclusions or can this be their literature review also? i ask because i have noticed that in some authors literature embedded therein are their opinions or arguments. surely if i cite this into my research i would be citing opinions and not facts.
In literature review, it is preferably to refer to original article and to summarize their main findings. Then you may use add in your opinions based on their findings by referring to the literature. Literature review is not like what a reporter does, but it is better that you contribute some ideas and give some critics on different papers. It is normal that in the literature, some authors put in their views or opinions because they need to discuss their findings, for example, how did they got the results?
Conducting a literature review is both science and art. It is about looking at what others have done and how you interpret their work in the light of a new context. I am attaching here a document which acts as a useful guide in conducting literature reviews. You may find it useful too.
The short answer is the authors findings. If their opinions are important, I would include it in the discussion part of the literatur review.
